Life is a beautiful blessing. The news of a new born baby is one of
the biggest accomplishments in a man's life. And I am sure, most men can
relate to this. That moment when you hear for the first time that your
wife is pregnant, you can already hear the sound of your little crying
baby.
Your life changes completely. You begin to learn the basics of fatherhood and you receive all sorts of parenting advice from people you know. Despite, all these expert advice on fatherhood, there will still be a number of things that you will not know until you do not experience them yourself as a dad.
Here are a number of things that you should be prepared about before you experience fatherhood.
1- You think you know about how to take care of a baby; you are wrong
You may have some level of experience in taking care of a baby, but that's just the beginning phase. When it comes to taking care of your own baby, things are a little complicated. To make it sound easy for you, things are a little poopy. You will learn about fatherhood with time and you will seek help from others whenever necessary. You will have to learn to master yourself in changing diapers so that you become careful and be neat at it.
2- Sleeping will be a luxury for you
There will be times during your early fatherhood days when you will have sleepless nights, just to attend your crying baby. Without any idea why your little angel is crying, you will still be going to work in the morning.
3- Sacrifices will be made from your end
You will have to make sacrifices and say goodbye to some of the things before your fatherhood days, like late night parties, loud sex, etc. You will have to set new priorities for yourself. You will have to change your daily schedule and limit your social life. It is because you will prioritize your baby needs over everything.
4- Sex with your partner will be a topic of discussionafter pregnancy
Unlike your days before your fatherhood, there will be times of complete drought. Be prepared for not getting any for a MINIMUM of six weeks. This is almost the recommended time after post-partum.
5- You may become a little more emotional than you were before
You may be hardened from inside, but the first sight, first glance, at your baby will melt you from inside. Right then and there, you will become numb to everything thing happening all around you and there will be a soft spot within your hardened heart. And this beautiful soft spot will be touched by your little baby.
6- Your perspective to life will change; you will look at things from a ‘fathers' eye
Before your fatherhood, you may have different interpretations for things. Consider the sound of crying babies before you were a dad and the sound of crying babies during your fatherhood. Your interpretation to life will change dramatically.
7- You will be interrupted during important work
You will be interrupted by your baby when you are having conversations with your better half. And usually, you may hear a call of your crying baby when you are really ‘busy' with your partner (But that's not until the end of the sixth week).
8- Be ready to be an entertainer whenever your kids are bored
You will have to be creative with the bedtime stories and ideas to entertain your kids. You may have been a lazy and a boring person before your fatherhood, but after becoming a father, you will have to be pro-active in keeping your kids happy by entertaining them and fulfilling their small requests of joy.
9- You are no more a single unit; you are a joint unit, which will include you, your child's mother and your little angel
Before your fatherhood days, you may love to be completely solo – being alone. You may not love doing things for others except yourself. This is normal for most guys. But after the birth of your first newborn, you stop being selfish, and start to think of your child's mother and your new-born.
10- Silver lining to fatherhood
Fatherhood will not be easy. It will be hard. But the journey and experience of it will be worthwhile. Your self-esteem will increase, knowing that you and your better half have together added a new blessing into this world.
